Ecological and evolutionary responses to climate change

The focus of this course will be on ecological and evolutionary responses of organisms to climate change, mostly using examples from plants and animals.

This course exposes you to the latest research on the evolutionary and ecological consequences of climate change. The topic is presented through lectures, literature reading and discussion, and workshops including data analysis that aim to integrate climate change consequences on ecology, physiology, behaviour, and evolution. Topics will cut across biological scales and be focused on both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems.

The course will be taught by a set of Stockholm University experts actively studying climate change and its biodiversity consequences using cutting edge technology. While the focus is on how non-human organisms are impacted, there is the potential to learn about societal consequences along with potential mitigation approaches. This is an intense and interactive course, requiring you to prepare and discuss each topic, in both written and oral assignments, and both individually and in groups.

    Teaching format

    The education consists of lectures, seminars, computer- and group exercises as well as examination of case-studies. Participation in seminars, exercises and group education associated with this is compulsory.

    Assessment

    Measurement of knowledge is through written and oral assignments, both individually and in groups.
