Cultural evolution: project
This course allows you to go deeper into one of the topics of cultural evolution encountered in the preceding course Cultural evolution: theories and observations. We welcome students from the humanities as well as the social and natural sciences.
After taking the first course "Cultural evolution: theory and observations", you here proceed with examining an explicit area more thoroughly. You will produce an interdisciplinary paper on a topic of your choice related to the emergence, spread or change of culture. The topic of the project will be defined in agreement with the one of the teachers who is specialised in your area of interest and should be theoretically grounded in one of the research fields within the humanities or social or natural sciences. You will have one or two supervisors from the team of teachers that covers a wide range of subjects in the humanities, social and natural sciences, including cultural evolution, sociology, linguistics, psychology, history of ideas, archaeology, mathematics and biology. You also get to read and discuss your fellow students’ projects covering topics from widely different areas and thus further increase your interdisciplinary competence.

Course structure
The course runs at 50% time during the second half of the spring term.
Teaching format
The format of the course is project-based and built up mainly by project work and supervision. There will by three seminars in the evening where students will be able to follow and discuss the development of each other’s projects in groups of different sizes. The course ends with a conference where all projects are presented.

Assessment will be based written and oral presentation.
