Basic Electronics

This is an introductory course in analog and electronics, with an emphasis on applications commonly used in experimental physics. Through a combination of electronics theory and “hands-on” experience, you will be able to understand, calculate and construct electronic circuits with real-world application.

In the course, you will be introduced to a variety of common electronic circuits, including passive resistor networks, AC filters, operational amplifiers, digital logic, analog/digital conversion, and semiconductor devices such as diodes and resistors. You will learn to both analyze and calculate the circuits’ behavior, and to construct and measure them in the lab.

  • Course structure

This is a first cycle course given during the daytime. It is an elective course.

    Teaching format

The course consists of both lectures and laboratory exercises, where theory is combined with hands-on experience. Laboratory exercises are obligatory and reported orally. Written theory assignments may also be assigned. The course can be given in English.

    Assessment

The course is examined through written exam and oral presentation of the laboratory work.
