    Krig handlar inte bara om nationers kamp emot varandra, de handlar också om hur den civila befolkningen, däribland barn ska skyddas för att säkra nationers framtid. Under andra världskriget kom cirka 70 000 finska barn till Sverige. Skälen var främst humanitära eftersom Finland var involverat i flera krig mellan 1939 och 1945, men det fanns även politiska undertoner i de diskussioner som fördes kring förflyttningarna. I den här artikeln kommer vi att ge en övergripande beskrivning av transporterna och ta upp några frågor som rör barnens mottagande i Sverige.

  • Exporting visions and saving children

    The present study deals with the Swedish Save the Children Fund’s, Rädda Barnen’sexpansion during 1938-1956. During this period, Rädda Barnen developed into anorganization of both national and international importance. What factors enabled this advanceand how this affected Rädda Barnen’s performance and outlining of relief work will beanalysed. Swedish politics and interactions with the Swedish government, but also with otherrelief organizations, shaped the territory within which Rädda Barnen developed. For thisreason, these interactions will be investigated too. In the interactions that took place on boththe national and international level, struggles seemed to surfaced between the differentorganizations, and what was at stake in these struggles will also be examined.

    How Rädda Barnen carried out its relief work both within the country and on theinternational arena will be discussed in the last part of the study. Some examples of activitiesarranged for different groups of children will be presented.   • Building bridges of trust

    Seventy thousand children were moved to Sweden from Finland during the Second World War with the purpose of giving them a break from the calamities of war. Moving children for this reason was common practice in the Western world during the twentieth century. Officially, the motives have always been humanitarian, but political motives have often played an important role commonly, to foster suitable citizens within planned societies. Political goals were important in the moving of Finnish children, but in a different way. In this article, I suggest that the children were used as commodities of compassion' in a Swedish politics of indemnification.
