Maria Hermanns

About me

I am a theoretical physicist in the KOMKO department. I am working on condensed matter systems, and I am mainly interested in quantum effects in correlated electron systems. I have worked on the fractional quantum Hall effect, many-body entanglement, topological phases of matter, and quantum spin liquids. 

I am currently one of the teachers in the quantum mechanics course FK5020.

Three-dimensional topologically ordered phases

We study topologically ordered systems. One of their characterizing features is quantum number fractionalization, e.g. quasiparticle excitations can carry charge that is a fraction of the elementary electron charge.
