About me

Background and research interests

  • Bachelor in Geography. Master in Meteorology, thesis: The impact of aerosols on the sensible and latent heat fluxes in Beijing (Aerosolernas inverkan på sensibla och latenta värmeflöden i Beijing).
  • Worked at FMI (Finnish Meteorological Institute) as assistant forecaster, researcher and oceanographer, specializing in digitalizing old ice charts over the Baltic Sea.
  • PhD in Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography at MISU, March 2018 - December 2022. Thesis: On the atmospheric transport pathways of heat into the Arctic in winter and spring.
  • Currently Postdocor at MISU, started in February 2023.

Research at MISU as a PostDoctor in Arctic Meteorology

Participating in the spring expedition ARTofMELT (Atmospheric rivers and the onset of sea ice melt) in Spring 2023, to investigate the role of atmospheric rivers (episodic, intense and narrow injections of warm and moist air from the mid-latitudes into the Arctic) in the initialization of the annual melt onset over Arctic sea ice. This position includes preparation work, installation of the instruments on the Icebreaker Oden, participation in the expedition and post-processing and analysing of collected data.

Research at MISU as PhD student

Participating in the ACAS (Arctic Climate Across Scales)-project. Atmospheric dynamics and drivers behind Arctic weather extreme events, role of atmospheric blocking and the influence on the surface energy budget over sea ice. Mainly focusing on wintertime extremes and their link to moist intrusions and large-scale circulation using Reanalysis data, but also analysing case studies where observation data are incorporated. The final project focuses no the atmospheric role in initiation of the melt season in the Arctic.
