this Summer programme is very well-balanced between being academically challenging, while still having enough free time to explore the city and make the most of your summer

Why did you choose to participate in SULaw Summer programme 2022?

I chose to study at SULaw Summer programme 2022 because I wanted to do some sort of exchange after COVID and the courses offered at SULaw really aligned with my interests. I also really liked the fact that there was a social programme offered and that all students stayed in the same accommodation. I specifically chose to study on campus to not only enjoy the courses but to also meet new people from all over the world, and the social programme definitely made it easier for us to bond.

Which courses did you choose and why did you choose them?

I chose "International Criminal Law” and “International Law, Peace and Post-Conflict Transitions”. I specifically chose courses that were on-campus as I wanted the real Stockholm experience and luckily these courses were the most interesting to me as well. This year I started my LLM in International and Transnational Criminal Law, so I thought International Criminal Law would be a good way to prepare for that. In regards to International Law, Peace and Post-Conflict Transitions, I liked the challenge of an advanced course. I thought this was a very distinct course that doesn’t really get offered anywhere else, so it was a unique opportunity to delve into this specific topic.

What are your tips and tricks to make the most of the course(s) and your stay at SULaw?

I would definitely recommend participating actively. You’re here voluntarily, so this is your chance to ask any questions and really delve into a specific topic without the added pressure of getting a good grade as most classes are pass or fail. I had class on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 09:00-11:00 and 13:00-15:00, so I tried to get most of my studying done in-between classes so that I didn’t have to do too much when I got home.

What did you enjoy the most during your stay in Stockholm?

Stockholm is an amazing city and it’s hard to choose my favourite part of it. It was an incredible experience to explore a new city with new friends. As mentioned before, I really liked the social programme, especially playing Kubb and visiting the city of Sigtuna. I also visited some museums that were all great, like the ABBA museum and the royal palace. For me, it was really special to experience the sunrise at 03:00 in the morning; watching that will always be a special memory. Thinking back on it, it’s incredible how much we experienced in just two weeks; the city just has so much to offer!

Why should other students choose to study our Summer programme?

I think this Summer programme is very well-balanced between being academically challenging, while still having enough free time to explore the city and make the most of your summer. The teachers are inspiring and very nice and the teaching style leaves a lot of room for questions and debate. Generally, everything is very well taken care of, with regular e-mail updates and reminders. The accommodation was also better than I could hope for. Everyone had private rooms with a private bathroom and kitchen and the accommodation itself was in the middle of the city centre. All in all, the Summer programme is very well put together with everything taken care of, so why shouldn’t you?

How would you summarize SULaw Summer programme with 3 words?

Inspiring, enriching, fun!
