The Stockholm Pre-moot was a three-day event (24-26 March) which started with a symposium at the SCC Arbitration Institute. Prestigious speakers presented and discussed with the students some of the challenges of legal interpretation in the context of international sales law; and the impact on arbitration of corruption issues and mandatory requirements (e.g. sanctions). Some speakers shared past experiences and anecdotes regarding the implications for arbitral proceedings of parallel judicial actions dealing with allegations of bribery. The students were also delighted to hear some tips and tricks for effective oral advocacy in arbitration.

SULaw are grateful to David Wigfeldt (Legal Counsel, SCC), James Hope (Partner, Vinge), Fredrik Ringquist (Partner, Mannheimer Swartling), Sara Bengtson Urwitz (Associate, Mannheirmer Swartling), Polina Permyakova (Partner, Delphi), Julian Bordaçahar (Senior Legal Counsel, PCA), Prof Margaret Moses (Loyola University of Chicago), Prof Patricia Shaughnessy (Stockholm University, and President of the Vis Moot Association), for their insightful comments and engaging presentations.

During the weekend, the students presented and tested their legal arguments in front of panels of arbitrators over 25 hearings at Mannheimer Swartling offices. The team of Aarhus University prevailed in the grand finale, against the University of Sydney team. Importantly, the weekend was full of opportunities to meet peers, network, and have fun!

The co-organisers of the Stockholm Pre-moot (Stockholm University, SCC Institute, and Mannheirmer Swartling) wish all the teams and new colleagues the best of luck during the Vis Moot week in Vienna. A big round of applause to the participating teams: Aarhus University (Denmark), Erasmus University Rotterdam (Netherlands), ITAM (Mexico), Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University (Ukraine), Loyola University Chicago (USA), National Law University, Jodhpur (India), Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Stockholm University (Sweden), University of Bonn (Germany), University of Lucerne (Switzerland), University of Montevideo (Uruguay), University of Sydney (Australia).
