FAQ

Here you will find answers to frequently asked questions.

How do I apply?

Most of our courses and programs have the same procedure and last date for applying. However, it may vary. You will find more information about how to apply for each particular course and program under the application tab.

What does “conditionally admitted” mean?

Being conditionally admitted means you did not fulfill all eligibility requirements at the time of your application, however it is possible that you will meet the requirements when the course starts. In order to register on the course/program you have to show that have fulfilled all the pre-requisites. Please contact the Study Counsellor or the Student Office prior to the start of the course to certify your eligibility.

How do I register?

You can find updated information about registration here. You will also find information about how to register in the acceptance letter.
What are the conditions for re-registration?

If you have not passed a course /course module during the semester that you were first registered, you may re-register in order to finish the course. Contact the Student Office at studentexpedition@statsvet.su.se. You can re-register during the whole semester, but no later than two weeks before an exam or a seminar that you want to attend. Please note that re-registered students can only participate in lectures and seminars if there are seats available. First-time-registered students will always be provided places prior to the re-registered students, even in the selection for special courses. It can therefore be difficult to re-enrol for well attended/popular courses.

What are the conditions for withdrawing from enrolment?

During the first three weeks of the semester you can make an “early withdrawal” from the course you are registered on. If you make an early withdrawal you will be able to apply for the course again in the future. You can make the early withdrawal via Ladok.

If you want to withdraw from a course later on during the semester we need you to send us a written request. You can write to us via regular mail or e-mail. State your name, Swedish personal identity number and the course you wish to withdraw from. Send this to the Student Office (studentexpedition@statsvet.su.se). If you do not intend to finish the course in the future we will register your withdrawal.

Be aware that a withdrawal from studies is not the same thing as a study leave. A study leave is only possible under certain conditions for program students. Please contact the Study Counsellor for more information.

Do I have to sign up for an exam?

It is mandatory to sign up for all sit-in exams through Ladok. This applies to both ordinary exams and re-take exams. You will receive a message on Athena when it is possible to sign up. If more than one examination hall will be used, your examination hall will be announced on Athena a few days before the examination. If you have not signed up via Ladok, you will only be able to take the exam if there is a seat available. In order to take the exam and have it graded you must also bring a valid ID with you.

Please note that you do not need to sign up for take-home exams.

Do I have to be registered in order to take an exam/re-take exam?

You have to be registered in order to receive a grade. If you are not already registered on the current semester you will therefore have to re-register in order to take a re-take exam.

For how long are my seminar results valid?

Many courses have compulsory seminars and seminar assignments, as well as an exam at the end. If you have completed the seminars and the assignments but not the exam, the following will apply;
the seminars and the seminar assignments are valid for three semesters after your first semester of enrolment on the course. If you do not pass the exam within the three coming semesters, you will have to re-do both the seminars and the exam.

Where do I find information on where an examination will be held?

Find information about exam seating here.

How do I ask for an amending or reviewing of a grade?

An obtained grade cannot be appealed according to the Higher Education Ordinance, but a student always has the right to get it corrected if there is an obvious mistake, or to get a reconsideration.

In order to get a grade amended or reviewed you need to fill out the form below and email it, together with a copy of your exam, to studentexpedition@statsvet.su.se. Be sure to motivate thoroughly why you believe an amendment or reviewing should be done. It is always good to refer to the course literature and learning outcomes to back up your arguments.

You will find the form here.

Do I have to complete a course within a certain time period?

You can re-register as long as a course/program is still given and has not changed significantly in its content since you were admitted. After that point you will have to apply for the equivalent course/program again in order to finish it. Please note that re-registration can only be done if there are seats left on the course, and that first-time registered students are prioritized.
