Research project U-Train: Training to Teach Online in Wartime and After
The U-Train project addresses the needs regarding design and delivery of online courses during wartime and after, as a part of reconstructing the higher education sector in Ukraine. The project engages teachers from Ukrainian universities to complete pedagogical training which is hard to accomplish in the turmoil of war.
The U-Train project has the following objectives:
1. Estimating the current knowledge in design and delivery of online courses among teaching staff at Ivan Franko National University in Lviv (LNU), Ukraine, and the challenges they face in wartime.
2. Creating a flexible training program for online teaching/learning that meets teachers’ needs. The program should be modular with some modules meeting the challenges during wartime and some dedicated to future developments in the postwar reconstruction of the educational sector in Ukraine.
3. Exploring the interest of teachers to participate in the training program. If a large number of teachers show interest in attending the program, criteria for selecting participants in the first run of the training should be created.
4. Conducting training in design, delivery and evaluation of online courses for LNU teachers.
5. Evaluating the training program and awarding the best-designed courses.
6. Introducing changes in the training program (if necessary) and making it publicly available through a social media platform.
7. Establishing a network of academics from all partner institutions dedicated to developing and enhancing e-learning at the higher education institutions in Ukraine. We will hereby contribute to the active role that academia is going to play in rebuilding society after the war.
