For most of our courses, you can find the course web via kurser.math.su.se

Please note that courses given together with KTH may have their course web and schedule at KTH, if so you can find information about this in the course catalogue or we will send it our before the course begins.

In order to be allowed to participate in a written examination you must have signed up for the exam via Ladok. You cannot take an exam without having signed up, and we cannot accept any late applications!

If you have any technical difficulties signing up for the exam, contact our Student office (studentexpedition@math.su.se) as soon as possible, and before the deadline for signing up for the exam you want to take.

If you sign up for an exam and it turns out that you cannot attend, please deregister for the exam in Ladok.

When and how can I sign up?

You sign up via Ladok. Usually you can sign up starting a month before the exam, and the deadline to sign up is usually 10 days before the exam (at 23:59). Occasionally the deadline can be earlier, for instance around holidays, for some re-take exams or for exams given at KTH.

Exams in January 2027: the deadline for signing up for exams 7-9 January 2027 is 27 December.

Sign up for exams at KTH

If you follow a course at KTH given by Stockholm University, you register for examinations in KTH:s Ladok (reached by logging in with your KTH account, or changing university to KTH once you are logged in to Ladok). The deadline may be different than for exams at SU.

Schedule for exams and registration at KTH

If you plan to take an exam and need some kind of support, like extra time or taking the exam alone or in a smaller group, you must sign up in Ladok 14 days before the exam (around holidays, the deadline might be earlier) and indicate what kinds of support you need.

Exams in January 2027:

• If you want to take an exam on 5-10 January with support you must sign up by 20 December.
• If you want to take an exam on 11-15 January with support you must sign up by 27 December.

If you miss this deadline you can sign up for the exam for a few more days (sign up is usually open until 10 days before the exam) but then you cannot apply for support.

To get this kind of support at exams you need to contact Student services and be recommended such support

Students at Stockholm University should be familiar with the rules that apply to written examinations.

Regulations for written seated examination

Don't forget to bring valid ID. If you are unable to show a valid ID you will not be allowed to take the exam. A list of valid types of ID can be found in the regulations, link just above.

In the university's document Regulations for education and examination at first-cycle and second-cycle level you can find, among other things, rules about setting and altering grades.

Moreover, you as a student at the Department of Mathematics should be familiar with the Faculty of Science's Ethical Guidelines and the Department of Mathematics' Code of Honour, which you can read about further down the page.

When your exam is corrected, the examiner will report your grade in Ladok and you can see it there.

Since August 2024 we send out all corrected exams by email via our QR code system for returning exams. The scanned exams are usually sent out within a few days after the student office has received the exams from the examiner, which is usually - but not always - around the same time that results are reported in Ladok. If you have still not received your exam within about a week of getting the result in Ladok you can contact the student office.

The exam is sent to your student address which is connected to the course pages. Make sure that this address is forwarded to an email address that you check regularly - you do this via kontohantering.su.se.

If you want to collect the paper version of an exam, or an exam you wrote earlier than August 2024, you can do so by visiting the student affairs office during opening hours. Make sure to have the course code available, as well as the date of the exam and your anonymization code for the exam (this information can be found in Ladok -> Examinations -> Passed).

We save exams for two years before throwing them out.

If you can't visit our office

If you can't visit our office, you are welcome to send us an envelope containing another (stamped and addressed) envelope, in which we can send the exam to you. The envelope should be of the format C4 (so big enough to fit the A4 exam).

In your letter, please give your full name and personal ID number (personnummer), and the course code, date and anonymization code for the exam (this information can be found in Ladok -> Examinations -> Passed).

In the letter, state your personal details (full name and personal ID-number as shown in Ladok), the course code and date for the exam, and your anonymization code.

Students have a right to be represented when decisions concerning education are prepared or made. Representation can be organised through student councils, but you can also influence your education for instance by contacting teachers or directors of study, and by responding to course evaluations.

The Department of Mathematics has a number of recorded lectures, which are available through OVI or Youtube. Many of the videos are in Swedish, but there are some in English as well, mainly on our Youtube channel.

If you are not feeling well or have trouble with your studies, there is support for you. The Student Health Services offer individual counselling, groups, workshops and other activities that aim to support your well-being and realise your full academic and personal potential during your time as a student. You can discontinue a course in Ladok. If less than three weeks have passed since the course began, your registration on the course is removed so that you can apply for it again at a later time.

You can also discontinue a programme in Ladok (by going to "my education" in the Ladok menu and clicking on the name of the programme you want to discontinue). If you do so, any unfinished courses within the programme will also be discontinued.

If there are special circumstances, you can be granted a break from your studies with a guarantee to return to your studies later. This is only possible on a programme, not for individual courses.

Even if you take a more "unofficial" break, that is, if you don't follow your programme for a while but you haven't applied for (or been granted) a study break, it is often still possible to return to your studies.

Contact the study advisors if you want to apply for a study break, or want to return to your studies after a break.

If need a residence permit for students to study in Sweden, please note that it may not be so easy to continue your studies after a break since you would need an extension on your residence permit.

If you get sick and have student finance via CSN, you have to notify CSN and provide an illness report to “Försäkringskassan” (the Swedish Social Insurance Agency).

Deferral of study commencement

If there are extenuating circumstances you may be able to defer the commencement of your studies. If you are not exempt from tuition fees, you must have paid the tuition fee in order to be granted a deferral.

You can usually sign up for exams on a course you have been registered for within the last two years, without needing to be re-registered. If you have trouble signing up for an exam, please contact the Student office (before the deadline for signing up).

You can only be re-registered if there is room for more students on the course, and you should only apply for re-registration if you actually intend to take the course this semester. If you are granted re-registration and then are not active on the course, you may not be granted re-registration again next time (but you can always contact us if there is a particular reason why you need to be re-registered).

Please note that a current registration may be needed for other purposes than actually completing the course, especially if you are not registered for other courses at SU. This may be things like study grants from CSN, student housing, and insurance.

Sometimes you may need to apply again via Universityadmissions.se

If you were admitted to a course but never registered for it, or if you discontinued the course in the first three weeks, you cannot be re-registered but need to apply again via Universityadmissions.se.

Also, if a course has been discontinued it is no longer possible (after a settlement period) to complete the course. If there is a new version of the course, you can apply for that via Universityadmissions.se.

How and when to apply for re-registration

You can apply for re-registration for courses in the autumn from early June, and courses in the spring from early December. At these times, upcoming courses are added to the application form.

You can apply to be re-registered for a course that has already started, but you should first check how much of the course has already passed and if you have missed any deadlines. It may not be possible to complete the course if you start late.

We start going through applications soon before the relevant semester begins, so if you fill in the form early it may be a while before your application is processed.
