The Association agreement between the EU and Mexico from a gender perspective.

Free trade, together with foreign investment which it normally follows, has an enormous impact on domestic economies and societies. These impacts are gendered, they affect in differentiated ways different groups of men and women according to their place in society. One classic example is NAFTA and its consequence in Mexico. Another such example, not so well studied, is the FTA between Mexico and the EU that started in the year 2000 and whose updated, modernized version is expected to be approved soon after the new Mexican government comes to power. In this presentation we try to view some general trends and foresee their possible gendered consequences.

Edmé Domínguez R., Associate Professor in Peace and Development Studies. She has a background in International relations and has been working on gender studies within IR and Global Political with a focus on Latin America
