I am Head of Curatorial Pedagogies in the International M.A. Curating Art programme at Stockholm University where I explore how curating as a practice and a way of thinking relate in research, in the classroom, and through public exhibitions and programs. I am trained as an art historian, having received a PhD in modern & contemporary art history, theory, and criticism from The University of Iowa (USA) after receiving an M.A. in art criticism & theory at Stony Brook University (New York) while studying with the art critic Donald B. Kuspit. I am currently finishing a second doctorate in theology and philosophy of religion from Drew Theological School outside of New York City, entitled "Exhibiting God: The Curatorial as Theological Method." My research traces the boundaries and intersections of art, theology, religion, theory, and spirituality and I do this by deploying the concept of the curatorial as a methodology. My art historical and theological research as well as my classroom teaching has been shaped by my practice as a curator. I served as Chief Curator of the Sheldon Museum of Art at the University of Nebraska (USA) for eleven years where I worked with a permanent collection of 19th & 20th century North American art and collaborated with numerous artists on exhibition and publishing projects. I have subsequently worked as an independent curator and consultant, continuing to work closely with artists on exhibitions and publishing projects. My teaching experience has focused on art students throughout the USA and focuses on curatorial studies, art theory & criticism, modern & contemporary art, including  seminars on the institutional history of the Museum of Modern Art (New York City), history of curatorial practice, and museology.
