RT1: Caring for anthropology - in society, businesses and organizations

Round Table Abstract

Roundtable discussion on anthropological work outside the academy II

This Roundtable discussion will be held in Swedish.

Anthropology as a scientific discipline is still struggling to be recognized outside academia in Swedish society. Despite various initiatives at anthropological university departments the transition is slow. Very few decisionmakers do not know what anthropology is, even fewer can imagine what an anthropological contribution can offer to contemporary societal, organizational and business issues. Students struggle to convince employers of the use of their acquired anthropological knowledge but are usually employed on other merits. What can we do to change this? How can we care for anthropology?

This roundtable addresses how we can care to make anthropology a more recognizable knowledge resource in Swedish society. It is a continuation of last years’ successful roundtable discussion at SANT on anthropological work outside the academy.
