The University’s procedures for disposal of liquid chemical residues and aqueous solutions from laboratory activities specify what may be poured into the local sewage system. They have been approved by the Stockholm Water Company and the City of Stockholm Environment and Health Administration.

They can be used by departments (or equivalent) operating in the University area, which stretches from Sveaplan in the south to the Bergius Botanic Garden in the north and is connected to the municipal wastewater treatment plant in Henriksdal through the sewage system.

The procedures constitute an exception to the rule than no hazardous substances should be poured down the drain. The procedures specify which chemicals are exempt from the rule, as well as the quantities, concentrations, and how often the chemicals may be poured down the drain.

Please note that radioactive substances and solutions are subject to other waste regulations.

If you have any questions about the procedures, please contact Environmental Officer Margaretha Åkerholm, margaretha.akerholm@su.se.
