Double Master Degree with Ludwig-Maximilian-Universität in München

The Department of Political Science at Stockholm University (SU) and the Geschwister Scholl Institute of Political Science (GSI) at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU Munich) have teamed up to offer a double degree option by combining the Master in Political Science of Stockholms Universitet (120 ECTS) and the Master Program in Political Science of LMU Munich (120 ECTS).

The study program at each institution will comprise one year. In the first year all students participating in the double degree option will follow the program at SU and the second year of the program will take place at LMU Munich. The double degree is fully taught in English. Students successfully participating in the program and fulfilling all academic and administrative requirements will be able to award the following degrees:

LMU: Master of Arts (M.A.) Politikwissenschaft
SU: Master of Science (M.Sc.) Political Science

The study plan that will lead to the Double Degree graduation in both degrees is established as follows:

During Year 1 students will enroll in 60 ECTS of the Master in Stockholm (semester 1 and 2). They will have to follow the study plan as established for the students of  the Master in Political Science. Participants are after successfully completing of the first study year admitted to year 2 of the Master Program in Political Science at LMU. All students of the double degree will write their master thesis according to the LMU program.

N.B. At LMU Munich, all students including exchange students are required to pay a mandatory fee for student services (Grundbeitrag) and for basic off-peak public transport ("Semesterticket"). This fee (approx. 130 €) is charged at the beginning of each semester by LMU Munich on behalf of the Munich Student Services (“Studentenwerk”).

Admission

The double degree option is a variant of our International Masters Program in Political Science and Masterprogram i Statsvetenskap. In order to participate in the double degree option, applicants have to first apply to and be an active student on either of these two programs and satisfy the academic and admission requirements of both institutions. 

Admission requirements at Stockholm University and deadline

Students admitted to the International Master’s Programme in Political Science or Masterprogram i Statsvetenskap at Stockholm University are welcome to apply for the double degree option during their second semester, see information about the study exchange application process and deadlines here.. The exchange studies at LMU will be in English, a certificate of German knowledge is NOT necessary.

Admission requirements:

  •     37,5 hp finished from your master studies
  •     Methods in Political Science (15 hp)
