Professor Paul Anastas, “Father of Green Chemistry”

Prof. Paul Anastas is the Director of the Center for Green Chemistry and Green Engineering at Yale University, USA, and is world renowned as one of the founders of Green Chemistry. He held the King Carl XVI Gustaf Professorship in Environmental Science in 2019/2020, hosted by the Department of Materials and Environmental Chemistry at Stockholm University. 

Prof. Anastas will support SUCCeSS in establishing a stimulating and leading environment for transdisciplinary and transformative research and education in the field of circular and sustainable systems, guided by the principles of green chemistry.

Professor Tanja Zimmermann, Empa, Materials Science and Technology, Functional Materials Department

Tanja Zimmermann is a full professor at ETHZ (Department of Materials) as well as at EPFL (School of Engineering, Materials Faculty). She got her doctoral degree in wood science and technology from the faculty of mathematics, informatics and natural science from the University of Hamburg in 2007. She worked as a group leader of the cellulose nanocomposites group and from 2011 on as head of the applied wood materials laboratory at Empa. In her current position, she is heading the functional materials department, which consists of five research labs and one research centre. She is also responsible for the research focus area sustainable built environment at Empa. She is member of the Empa directorate since 2018.

Professor John Warner, chemistry inventor

Professor John C. Warner has spent his life working to ensure that all practicing chemists will one day have the necessary skills to invent truly sustainable technologies. John is a chemist, inventor, educator, entrepreneur, and the co-founder of Green Chemistry.

Elin Bergman, CradleNet

Elin Bergman is known for being the Circular Economy Queen of Sweden. She the COO and spokesperson of the Swedish circular economy network Cradlenet, and is also one of the co-founders of the Nordic Circular Hotspot a collaboration platform for accelerating circular economy in the region.

She has also recently become a Founding Member of the Circular Economy Coalition - an international coalition of value-aligned individuals and organisations collectively advancing the circular economy through shared tools and resources, bridging the Global North and Global South.

For many years she worked as WWF Sweden’s circular economy expert, where she developed the international circular economy network Baltic Stewardship Initiative, to enable the recirculation of nutrients in the Baltic Sea region in the agri-food sector.
