    The international conference Languages, Nations, Cultures will take place on 22–24 May, 2019, at Stockholm University, Frescati Campus, Department of Swedish Language and Multilingualism.

    Book of Abstracts

    By bringing together scholars who work from a variety of theoretical and methodological perspectives, as well as representing a wide range of languages, the conference also aims to stimulate and further our theoretical understanding of the conditions that exist between different (national) varieties of the same language and how nation and culture is constructed in and through language.

    • Peter Auer, Professor of German and general linguistics, Freiburg University.
    • Anne Barron, Professor of English linguistics, Leuphana University, Lüneburg.
    • Camilla Lindholm, Associate professor in Scandinavian Languages, University of Helsinki.
    • Leigh Oakes, Professor of French and Linguistics, Queen Mary College, University of London.

    Workshops

    Workshops on the following themes are planned: Address in Pluricentric Languages; The Theory and Description of Pluricentric Languages – Beyond Concepts of Dominance and Non-Dominance; Interactional Perspectives on Pluricentric Languages.

    Stockholm University Campus in Frescati, Department of Swedish Language and Multilingualism, South Building (“Södra Huset”), Building D (“hus D”).

    When?

    22–24 May 2019.

    Conference opens at 13:00 on Wednesday 22 May and concludes on Friday 24 May at 16:00.

    Conference fee

    • Early bird fee: 1200 SEK /120 €
    • Regular fee: 1500 SEK / 150€

    The conference fee includes welcome reception, coffees/teas and lunch on Thursday and Friday.
