Kris på tolkfronten. En ny utredning efterlyser nya regelverk för tolkning. Tolkyrket behöver kvalitetssäkras – vem som helst ska inte kunna kalla sig tolk. Därför ska utbildning ges på färre ställen, men med fler utbildningsplatser och större likvärdighet.

Inte vore det fel om bokstaveringsalfabetet vore lite mer inkluderande och innehöll också kvinnonamn. Men ett krav är att alla ljud är tydligt urskiljbara – annars blir det en konflikt mellan den inkluderande ansatsen och funktionaliteten.

Ibland handlar namn på länder och platser inte bara om språk, utan också om politik. Ska man till exempel säga Burma – som kan förknippas med kolonialism – eller Myanmar – som utsågs till officiell norm när en militärregim tog över landet?

Att som vuxen lära sig ett nytt språk är en komplex och tidskrävande process. Det räcker inte med god vilja och ansträngning på individuell nivå – språkinlärning är också avhängigt omständigheter som man inte alltid själv rår över.
