Numerical analysis II

A second course in numerical analysis.

The course proceeds with numerical analysis and introduces important basic concepts and how to work numerically with differential equations. Discretisation is particularly important and is used in two methods that are presented: the finite difference method and the finite element method.

After this course, you are prepared for an independent work where, for example, you model and simulate a physical phenomenon.

  • Course structure

The course consists of three elements; theory, practical exercises and project.

    Teaching format

Instruction is given in the form of lectures and exercises.

    Assessment

The course is assessed through a written exam, and written and oral presentations of the practical exercises and project.

  • Schedule

The schedule will be available no later than one month before the start of the course. We do not recommend print-outs as changes can occur. At the start of the course, your department will advise where you can find your schedule during the course.
  • Course literature

Note that the course literature can be changed up to two months before the start of the course.
