Physics of information and computation

The course provides an introduction to the fundamentals of signaling and noise, including forces and units.

The course deals with the electromagnetic theory underlying wired and wireless communication and the quantum mechanical background of electronic, optical and magnetic materials. An introduction is also given to semiconductor technology. The course describes how information is encoded, processed, transmitted, stored and decoded in physical carriers.

The course provides knowledge of how basic components, devices, and processors work, and the structure of computer and networking systems, Students are introduced to fundamental and technical possibilities and limitations communication, networking, parallel computing, data centers, artificial intelligence, quantum information processing and quantum computers.
