Cosmology and Particle Astrophysics
Observations of the total solar eclipse of 29 May 1919 brought an end to the Newtonian description of the Universe, and paved the way for one governed by Einstein’s equations. This paradigm shift opened up a new cosmology, tying together particle physics, observational astronomy, and philosophy.
This course will give a short introduction to general relativity, gravitational radiation, gravitational lensing, Big Bang cosmology, cosmological parameters, thermodynamics in the early universe, the cosmic microwave background, cosmic inflation, and structure formation.

Course structure
This is a Master's level course given at half speed during daytime.
Teaching format
The teaching consists of lectures and problem solving sessions.
Assessment
The course is examined through written and/or oral exams.

When can I apply?
Registration is open from mid-March to mid-April for courses that run in the fall, and from mid-September to mid-October for courses that run in the spring.
Please note that many courses open for late registration in mid-July for courses in the autumn term and in mid-December for courses in the spring term.
