Housing for international students

Stockholm University rents furnished rooms and apartments to international students. These apartments are managed by the Housing office at Stockholm University, but are not owned by Stockholm University.

Not all international students are eligible for housing. A government decision allows universities in Sweden to offer accommodations to certain categories of students only. There is no housing guarantee for those who apply. Due to a shortage of housing in Stockholm, we can only offer accommodations to a limited number of students.

Who is eligible to apply?

The government allows universities in Sweden to offer accommodations to the following students:

  • International exchange students studying at least one semester
  • Tuition fee-paying students studying at least one semester
  • Doctoral exchange students studying at least one semester  Doctoral students can visit the webpage: Accommodation for visiting researchers

Currently, master students receiving a scholarship from Stockholm University Scholarship Scheme and exchange students are prioritized groups. Due to a high demand for housing from these groups we are usually not able to offer housing to other tuition fee-paying students. We recommend all students to read our advice on: Finding housing on the private market

All admitted exchange students will receive information via email on how to apply for accommodation from Housing Office. Please read more about the process and who is eligible at the link below.

The Housing Office, Stockholm University provides housing to international students and researchers at Stockholm University. However, there is no housing guarantee and due to a shortage of housing in Stockholm, the majority of students need to find housing on the private rental market. Therefore, all students are strongly recommended to look for different alternatives for housing. Please, read our advice about housing search on following link:
