Hans Adolfsson proposed as Stockholm University’s new President

The University Board at Stockholm University decided today, Friday 14 June, to propose Professor Hans Adolfsson, President of Umeå University, as the new President of Stockholm University. His candidacy will be considered by the Swedish Government, which takes the final decision on the matter.

“With this proposal Stockholm University will get a confident and trustworthy President who has experience of leading another broad university, but also has good knowledge of our academic culture,” says Mats Melin, Chair of the University Board.

Hans Adolfsson is a Professor of organometallic chemistry and is currently President of Umeå University. He received his PhD at KTH, was a postdoc in the USA and worked at Stockholm University for almost two decades as a teacher and researcher, including several years as Vice President. Hans Adolfsson is Chair of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions (SUHF) and Deputy Chair of the Swedish Foundation for International Cooperation in Research and Higher Education (STINT).

The University Board at Stockholm University unanimously agreed on the decision to propose to the Government to employ Professor Hans Adolfsson as President for the period 2025-02-01 – 2031-01-31. His candidacy will be considered by the Government, which, according to the Higher Education Ordinance, takes the final decision on the matter.
