Hannes Landén is a doctoral student at the Department of Sociology, Uppsala University. His research aims at explaining how employers’ demand for labor power emerges and how they go about to meet that demand by hiring new staff, using the Swedish pharmacy business as a case. The thesis makes use of sociological theories of markets and organization to explore how the employers on the one hand compete with other pharmacy companies for customers and profit, and on the other hand how they compete with other employers in order to attract and hire personnel.
The research project describes both how employers in this situation of dual competition construct “matches” between workers and jobs, and how they buffer between the sometimes conflicting demands of labor markets and customer markets.
