About me

My research focuses is at the intersection of language acquisition, sociolinguistics and language and interaction with a focus on signed languages. I combine corpus and experimental approaches to explore the relationship between language development, social interaction, and linguistic variation to advance our understanding of how languages emerge and adapt within their ecological niches. I focus on sign languages in general and the sign language Kata Kolok in particular. Both are severely underrepresented yet provide an excellent opportunity to test assumptions about language development more generally. Recently, my work has been gravitating towards exploring more how language is shaped by and for social interaction.
