Imren Borsuk ErogluGuest researcher
About me
I am an interdisciplinary scholar specializing in migration, development studies, and peace and conflict studies, with a regional focus on Turkey and the Middle East.
I have extensive international experience conducting research on war, political repression, and authoritarianism. During my PhD, I worked in conflict-affected regions such as the Kurdish regions in Turkey and Northern Ireland in the UK. Additionally, my work has examined the social consequences of urban development initiatives and gendered and racialized dispossession.
Most recently, I led a research project as a Senior Einstein Researcher at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, investigating how the global rise of authoritarianism affects diaspora movements, focusing on Turkey’s diaspora communities in Germany. My research has been published in leading journals and publishers such as Environment and Planning, European Urban and Regional Studies, Southeast European and Black Sea Studies, and Palgrave Macmillan. I have also received prestigious research grants, including the Einstein Research Grant and the Swedish Institute Scholarship.
In addition to my academic work, I have organized workshops, conferences, and summer schools on topics such as gender studies and authoritarianism. I am currently teaching courses on migration and the Middle East at Stockholm University. I also worked as a project manager at Transparency International–Turkey, where I focused on issues related to accountability and governance.
