Mohamed Sobih Aly El Mekawy

About me

Mohamed El Mekawy holds two PhDs. He received the first PhD in Geo-Informatics from the Royal Institute of Technology – KTH, Sweden in 2013. He received the second one in Information Systems from Stockholm University in 2016. He is an Expert/Researcher in Geographic Information Systems and Business-IT Alignment with a strong background in academics and university-industry framework supported by distinctive field experience in project management for more than 20 years.

Teaching

Since 2001, El Mekawy has been teaching courses such as Digital Business in the area of IT, Scientific Communication and Research Methodology, Global Information Systems, Scientific Theory and Writing, Advanced GIS, Global IT Management (GITM), Strategic Management of IT (SMIT), Scientific Communication and Research Methodology, Digital Business in the area of IT, Research Methodology and Scientific Writing, Management of IT-Enabled Change, and Spatial Planning with GIS in the Universities of KTH - Sweden, Stockholm University - Sweden, and University of Gävle - Sweden.

More than 300 team projects of Bachelor’s and Master’s Thesis under his supervision since 2006 were done on industries within a university-industry framework in the universities of KTH - Sweden, Stockholm University - Sweden, and University of Gävle - Sweden. He has also supervised several graduation projects in institutes/universities of ITI - Egypt, Sadat Academy - Egypt, and Cairo University - Egypt.

Research Activities

El Mekawy is actively participating in the following entities:

- International Journal of Geo-Information (ISPRS).

- International Journal of Knowledge Society Research (IJKSR) as a co-editor

- 3D GeoInfo Conference.

- European Conference of Information systems (ECIS), as a co-editor

- International Conference on Mobile Systems and Pervasive Computing (MobiSPC), as a technical program committee member.

- Swedish Research School of Management and IT (MIT), as a member

- Association for Information Systems (AIS), USA, as a member

Plus participation as a reviewer to peer-reviewed research published in several international journals and conferences, El Mekawy has published more than 40 peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters and conference paper within the field of Geo-Informatics and Information Systems.
