Rasmus Wilhelm Kyllönen

About me

I am a PhD student at the Department of Child and Youth Studies since August 2023. My special interest is journalistic media created for, with and by children, and in a broader sense how children participate in public spheres, and for that matter create their own counter-public spheres known as childhood publics.

I have bachelor's and master's degrees in journalism and communication from the University of Helsinki. For my master's thesis, I studied discursive constructions of children and childhood among journalists and producers in children's newsrooms in Finland.

Before moving to Stockholm, I worked as a journalist, news designer, infographic designer and graphic designer for public service company YLE, Swedish speaking newspaper Hufvudstadsbladet and media company Aller Finland, among others. I have teaching experience from vocational and university education.

Teaching

My experience in teaching includes media production at the vocational institute Prakticum in Helsinki as well as journalism and communication studies at the University of Helsinki. During my master's studies, I specialized in digital learning environments and learning with digital tools.

Research

My doctoral project focuses on issues related to children's participation in the public sphere and their creation of childhood publics.

Supervisors for the research are Elias Le Grand and Tanja Joelsson.
