Simon Pierre Boulanger Martel is a postdoctoral fellow at Score. He holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Montréal in Canada with a focus on international politics and political violence. His research interests include the political sociology of militarized organizations, the legacies of political violence and business influence on European Union (EU) policy-making processes. His work features in the Journal of Peace Research, Third World Quarterly, Civil Wars and the Revue québécoise de droit international.
Simon Pierre is currently enrolled in the REBALANCE project (Rebalancing Disruptive Business of Multinational Corporations and Global Value Chains), funded by the EU Horizon Europe program, together with Tim Bartley (project manager), Maria-Therese Gustafsson and John Murray. He carries out research on business influence on two EU policy initiatives aiming to regulate global supply chains: the European Commission’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) regulation and the proposal for a Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD). Prior to joining Score, Simon Pierre’s research has focused on the social dynamics of militarized organizations and the legacies of political violence. He has investigated US foreign military training missions, and the organizational dynamics and legacies of the Movement of the 19th of April (M-19) and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) guerrillas in Colombia.
