About me

Said Mahmoudi (1948), LL.M. 1974 (Tehran), Diploma in Graduate Legal Studies 1984 (Stockholm), LL.D. 1987 (Stockholm), docent in international law 1988 (Stockholm), professor of international law at Stockholm University since 1999. Between 1974 and 1981 he served as a diplomat in the Iranian embassy in Stockholm and at the Iranian Foreign Ministry. Since 2006, he has been an arbitrator, appointed by the Swedish government, according to Annex VII to the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. He was Dean of the Stockholm Faculty of Law 2009 - 2011. Among his assignments the following can be mentioned: member of the International Advisory Board of the Law of the Sea Institute, University of California at Berkeley; Member of the International Council of Environmental Law; member of the editorial board of the following journals: Yearbook of International Environmental Law; Environmental Policy and Law; Scandinavian Studies in Law. His research areas mainly consist of law of the sea, international environmental law, use of force, international organizations, and state immunity.
