Research group Clinical Text Mining Group

The Clinical Text Mining Group is a creative research group of computer scientists, engineers, computational linguists and physicians. We perform research in both artificial intelligence, language technology and health informatics.

The Clinical Text Mining Group is particularly trying to interpret clinical text using both domain experts and computers. We aim to create the future tools for clinicians – tools at the cutting edge in computer science and computational linguistics using AI.

The tools can detect and predict health care associated infections, early symptoms of cancer, and adverse drug events. They can also be used to de-identify information in patient records that can reveal the identity of individual patients. The aim is to use the data in AI applications without risking the privacy of patients.

Our research is based on data from the research infrastructure Health Bank – Swedish Health Record Research Bank that encompasses more than two million patient records in Swedish from the years 2006–2014. We have developed a number of tools and created a set of lexical resources.

The Clinical Text Mining Group works in close collaboration with Karolinska University Hospital and Region Stockholm.
