Research group Group SG Roger Karlsson

Roger Karlsson's research reflects a long-standing interest in eukaryotic cell motility, i.e. movements of intracellular structures and migration of whole cells.

Group description

Profilin is a coordinator of the two principal force generating machineries behind virtually all cell motility as first revealed by us and therefore takes a special interest in our studies. Currently the focus is on profilin’s interplay with other regulatory components of the actin microfilament system, particularly its function during actin polymerization and its coordination of actin and microtubule distribution in mammalian cells.

No active group at MBW since 2019 when Karlsson entered a position as Professor Emeritus. Instead project-related questions are tackled through collaborations and in silico, see also accompanying information under “research  project”.
