Group description

Landscape, Environment and Geomatics is one of our four research units at the Department.

Our research is often interdisciplinary and includes different data types and methods, including fieldwork, experiments, modeling and remote sensing. We focus on understanding historical, current and future interactions between humans, the environment, plants and animals. The unit studies landscape and environment on land and in water as well as on different scales, from local to global, from genes to biome, from individual to society. Current research areas are landscape ecology, environment and resource management, biodiversity, ecosystem services and how these factors interact with the climate. Geomatics is the collection, management and analysis of geographical data. It includes geographic information science (GIS), remote sensing, mapping and geodesy. Our research develops methods for utilizing the capacity of geodata for a number of applications in geo- and environmental science.
