Project description

In 2022, the Swedish Gender Equality Agency received a government assignment to translate and adapt an American evidence-based violence prevention programme, Dating Matters, for the Swedish context. The assignment includes allowing external researchers to carry out a process evaluation of the adapted programme.

In 2023, the Swedish Gender Equality Agency approached the Department of Child and Youth Science with a request to put together a research team to conduct a pilot study in the form of a qualitative process evaluation of the implementation of Dating Matters in a number of municipalities in Sweden. The first phase of the research project started in January 2024 and will be finalised in October 2025, with a possible extension.
Dating Matters: Strategies to Promote Healthy Teen Relationships is a comprehensive model for preventing violence in young people's partner relationships. The model was developed and evaluated by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Dating Matters aims to promote safe relationship behaviours, prevent youth dating violence before it occurs and is targeted at 11–14 year olds.
