Research project Global mobilitet och vuxnas andraspråksinlärning

This study aims to fill this knowledge gap by examining two groups of second language users (L2 users) in relatively favorable psycho-social circumstances.

Research on age effects in second language acquisition (SLA) has proposed that the importance of social and psychological factors increases after puberty and scholars have stressed the need of examining such factors among adult second language learners (Moyer, 2004, 2014; Kinsella & Singleton, 2015), but as yet no major endeavors have been undertaken that tackle these issues.

This study aims to fill this knowledge gap by examining two groups of second language users (L2 users) in relatively favorable psycho-social circumstances. The project compares adult L2 users in two different social contexts: Swedish L2 users in France and French L2 users in Sweden. The participants of the project will have spent at least 5 years in the host community. Both quantitative and qualitative methods will be used.. In sum, the project aims at providing a significant contribution to our understanding of adult second language acquisition.
