Research project HELCOM PLC 8

Pollution Load Compilations (PLC) have been an integral part of The Baltic Marine Environment Protection Commission (HELCOM) assessments since 1987, focusing on annual and periodic assessments of inputs of nutrients and selected hazardous substances. PLC-8 provides assessments of nutrient and contaminant inputs to the Baltic Sea.

The overall task of the Eighth Pollution Load Compilation (PLC-8) is to prepare a comprehensive assessment of the water- and airborne inputs of nutrients and selected hazardous substances and their sources to the Baltic Sea during the period 1995-2022 including follow up implementation of the HELCOM nutrient reduction scheme and assessment of the effectiveness of measures to reach the Baltic Sea Action Plan (BSAP) targets.

The PLC-8 project will be based on annual water- and airborne data on nitrogen, phosphorus and heavy metals from 1995-2022, periodical data from 1995, 2000, 2006, 2014, 2017 and 2021. The task for Baltic Nest Institute is to prepare data sets for production of assessment products. Baltic Nest Institute contributes with preparing data sets for the assessments.
