Research project Integrating Acquisition Research

How can mergers and acquisitions (M&A) increase the chance of success?

M&A are often used to realize a firm’s strategy; however, they often fail. By integrating and deepening M&A research this project provides important impulses to research and practice.

Project description

Mergers and acquisitions (M&A) is a move that can quickly increase a firm’s competitiveness. However, research shows that many M&A fail because of inability to handle the complexity; in valuation, in the choice of target, in the decision process, and the integration.
By deepening and broadening existing research the project increases knowledge about how common mistakes can be avoided and acquirers achieve increased competitiveness on dynamic markets.

The project integrates previously research areas, and illuminates the relations between strategic decision-making processes, internal and external dynamic processes, and the performance of M&A in empirical studies. The project is generously financed by Handelsbanken’s Research Fund.
The project is conducted together with other internationally leading researchers in the areas of strategy and M&A. The project has generated publications in leading international scholarly journals in the areas of Strategic Management, International Business, and Organization and Management.
