Context

The contextual project draws heavily on the micro-level findings of the three domain projects. Trough detailed and careful micro analyses of talk-in-interaction we will ensure robust results which can then be interpreted through contextual resources at micro, meso and macro levels. An important aspect of the contextual project is to link our empirical findings to the historical and socio-political developments in the respective nations, and to explore the relationships between culture, language use and norms. To this end we will also organise focus groups where participants will be invited to comment on our empirical data and results. Through this method we will be able to examine (shared) cultural knowledge and expectations in the respective communities.

Based on rich empirical data from the service, educational and healthcare domains, the contextual project aims at contributing to theories of pluricentric languages by linking national and regional variation in communicative patterns to various contextual resources.
