The thesis argues that there is a discrepancy between technical solutions for legal information retrieval and the idea of a generally accepted authoritative doctrine of legal sources.

Some of the challenges of legal information retrieval concern the ambiguity of language, commercialization of search algorithms and a general information overload. Due to the diversity of these matters, finding a one-fits-all solution will prove difficult. The thesis will, however, suggest some tools that could improve legal information retrieval and decrease the gap between technology and the doctrine of legal sources.
