RaCE - Radical Technology-Driven Change in Established Firms, Organizational capacity for radical change and innovation (RACE).

Technological development is triggering fundamental changes across industries. While the need for change appears well acknowledged, Norwegian leaders express substantial uncertainty around how to effectively respond. The primary objective of RaCE is to develop research-based knowledge on how established and well-performing firms successfully may respond to and manage radical technology-driven change. The project aims to illustrate different organizational solutions and leadership approaches to radical change and explain the contingencies for when and how these will be effective and successful. Esser and Olsen are involved in sub-project analyzing employees’ autonomy and developments in 10 countries since the late 1990s, especially changes in autonomy relating to occupation. Three Nordic countries (Denmark, Norway and Sweden) are compared with countries with distinctly different organization of industrial relations, including Germany France, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
