Research project Reading interventions in Swedish arrived adults

Language, including reading, is one of the most important factors for successful integration. However, most newly arrived adults do not develop functional reading ability in Swedish during their studies in Swedish for immigrants programs.

Nationally and internationally, there is a lack of research on reading interventions among newly arrived adults. The project examines intensive and systematic reading interventions with newly arrived adults without functional reading ability. It has an RCT design with three groups of newly arrived adults studying Swedish. One group receives regular teaching, while the other two groups participate in interventions focusing on reading and assistive technology. The results will show whether an intensive and systematic intervention can enhance the reading abilities of newly arrived adults.
