Research project Swedish as a second language in language and mother tongue instruction in primary school

The second part of a larger project on Swedish as a second language in suburban schools. The sub-study draws from fieldwork in a linguistically diverse primary school with a large proportion of newly arrived students.

Swedish as a second language: Sub-study 2; Swedish as a second language in language introduction and mother tongue instruction in one linguistically diverse primary school.

This sub-study is part of a larger project on Swedish as a second language (SSL) in sub-urban schools in Sweden, based on classroom ethnography.

Sub-study 2 draws from fieldwork (during more than two years) in a linguistically diverse primary school with a large proportion of newly arrived students. In this sub-study, we explore pedagogical principles in the language introductory groups, and to some extent also in the school subject SSL, as well as the collaborative practices among the teachers in SSL and the locally employed Mother Tongue teachers. We also explore collaborative practices among the Mother Tongue teachers, and their role in home-school cooperation (see Publications).
