Research project The (extra)ordinary life of a Royal Theatre

This dissertation is an ethnographic study of the Royal Theatre in Sweden during the turbulent year of 2017.

The dissertation began as a study of how inequalities were reproduced through the everyday practices in a large state funded theatre organization, but as the #metoo movement gained momentum, and #tystnadtagning and #metoobackstage was published during ongoing fieldwork, the everyday gave way for more extraordinary events. However, the question remains: how is the ordinary organizational life of a large theatre related to the events described in #tystnadtagning and #metoobackstage. The overarching aim of the thesis is to analyze how ordinary organizational practices at the Royal Theatre can be understood in relation to #metoo, #tystnadtagning and #metoobackstage.
