Research project Welfare Effects of Inspections and Enforcement in Oligopolistic Markets

Successful inspections and enforcement generate direct positive effects, such as a cleaner environment or higher tax revenues, but also affect competition in the market, an effect that must be taken into account when evaluating how limited inspections and enforcement resources should be allocated.

This project aims to generate policy recommendations for the performance of inspections and enforcement concerning environmental and health protection legislation, tax legislation and competition legislation. The issue is important from a business perspective as active inspections and enforcement efforts affect the market conditions for firms in terms of both costs and competition.
