Young Stockholmer´s perceptions of the development of crime and its significance for the will to punish

Crime gets a lot of space in today's media and a clear majority of Swedes believe that crime has increased during the last 10-year period. Some types of crime have also increased, especially the increase has been in fraud, vandalism and minor drug crimes. On the other hand, several of the types of crime that we have historically seen as serious, such as assault crimes, robbery crimes, theft crimes and arson, have decreased sharply, but are people aware of that? In this project, we will investigate what young Stockholmers know about the development of a number of crimes, and investigate whether an excessive experience of increased crime affects the willingness to punish more severely.
