Stockholm university

Researchers in the field of Archeology and Classical studies at Stockholm University are unique in their interdisciplinary approach where research spans many humanities and natural science disciplines.

The time span for our researchers is millions of years, from the oldest time of animals and humans to the present, where the starting point is the physical remains and the material traces that they have left behind. With the help of these tracks, the living conditions and imaginary world of animals and humans are studied.

The Department of Archeology and Classical studies has been designated one of the Faculty of Humanities' leading research areas. Our researchers are at the forefront both nationally and internationally through their many collaborations across fields of science and with other international research environments. The department has two, for Sweden, unique archaeological research laboratories and two centers: the Center for Paleogenetics and the Center for Evolutionary Cultural Research.
