Ancient culture and Ancient history explore the Greek and Roman cultures of the Mediterranean and all areas that have ever been dependent on them. In time we move from the oldest Stone Age to about 500 AD.

The subject includes not only history but also religion, philosophy, literature and art. Archaeological material also plays a major role. In short, we study all traces, material or spiritual, that humans have left behind. Our subject is therefore very comprehensive and unique both in Sweden and abroad through its special interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary focus. Some parts of the education are located at the Swedish institutes in Rome and Athens and our students also have the opportunity to participate in Swedish excavation projects in Italy, Greece and Turkey.
