How can search engines know what you’re looking for, even if you misspell the search term? Researchers in Language Technology study analysis, translation and generation of human language.

Linguistics and computer science team up in the field of Language Technology, which is also referred to as Natural Language Processing (NLP). This research subject deals with how computer programs and electronic devices can analyse, produce, modify and respond to human texts and speech.

With the help of language technology, we can easily summarise large amounts of texts, check grammar and discover patterns in web forums and chat rooms. The latter can be used for different purposes: personalised marketing is one, forensic linguistics is another.

Several of our Language Technology research projects are in the medical field. We try to find better prediction models for diagnoses and prognoses, and also ways to protect the privacy of patients.
