Research subject Cyber Security
As more and more aspects of our lives move online, information flows freely and knowledge can be accessed easily. This also means an increased vulnerability, for individuals, organisations and societies.
Can we protect ourselves against hacker attacks? What happens when hatred and misinformation is spread in social media? Is democracy threatened? The Cyber Security research subject deals with two areas: information security and digital forensics.
In information security, researchers study data protection, privacy, information infrastructure resilience, and cyber defence against digital attacks and warfare. There is a need for better security strategies in both public and private organisations, and an increased readiness to face attacks.
On the other hand, criminal activities also leave digital traces – and they can be used by the police as evidence. In digital forensics, researchers study how evidence can be collected and analysed from chats and other activities preserved in mobile phones, computers or sensors.
